We don’t get what we want just because we want it. We get it when we’re able to hold it.
‘In the beginning was the Word.’ We know the line. We’ve heard it in churches, whispered into creation myths and films. But this week, it landed not as a story about divinity, but about the process of making.
“I want to make work about my family lineage in Cardiff, about Britain and soul, but in a way that feels like dance, and a good time and a clash of cultures.” It all sounds so good in my head, as words, but when intention becomes action I notice how resistance can come disguised as SO many Gremlins; lethargy, not a priority, procrastination, overwhelm, judgement… Gremlin critters that block the art from coming through. The gold? Well, these Gremlins are just blocked energy and the sooner I have the boldness to face the fear and move, the sooner that energy can be alchemised into something real.
Because before there was light, there was language.
And before that, vibration.
And before that, intention.
The sequence is quietly radical. It suggests that nothing we long for arrives fully formed. It begins instead in resonance; a frequency we attune to, prepare for, become worthy of by becoming ready.
I’m sure we all have things we’ve been dreaming of, asking for. The things we are calling in, whether love, success, visibility, finance, peace, aren’t delayed. They’re arriving on time. But first, we must become a vessel that can hold the light they carry. But if they’re not here already maybe there’s a divine reason.
As we iterate, we are evolving to become the vessel (a frequency match) that can hold the quality of light we wish to bring in. As we call in our purpose, life won’t always go to plan. But it will give us the exact conditions needed to become the person who can carry the work.
To prepare, by readying the space and expanding our capacity. Because, to ask for something is to invite transformation.

Below are some early sketches from a new piece I’m starting and old pieces I’m pulling out to work on. They are still forming, but I wanted to let you in on the beginning.

Out Now
This week’s Poem Cast is about the ancestors who empower us. The ones who shaped the road long before we stepped onto it. I’m learning that when life doesn’t go to plan, it often gives us something more useful: the conditions to become the person who can carry the work.
Ancestors
A studio update in time for Friday prayers - a quick one about prayer and calling in what you wish to see in the world. As we call in our purpose, life won’t always go to plan. But it will give us the exact conditions needed to become the person who can carry the work.

I love these wise observations Karimah. Now, when the same old challenge keeps popping up in my life, instead of freaking out, I smile and say Thank You for the opportunity, if I really pay attention - to be a vessel to transmute the old energy into new.
