Studio Updates

New works - Dabke Triptych - explained
1

This week, I’m merging a few threads- starting with the practice of simply showing up to paint. Whether it’s in my sketchbook, the studio, or a corner of the world I’ve carved out for myself… it’s about making space.

But alongside that, I’ve been sitting with some bigger questions. How do we speak into political themes as artists? How do we hold the weight of what’s happening in the world, especially in places close to our heart, —while still maintaining a practice rooted in presence, poetry, and prayer?

In this video, I also take a moment to explain some of the recurring symbols in my work: like horses, portals, doorways, and particular colour choices. These aren’t just aesthetics, they carry memory, movement, and meaning.

Thanks for being here. I’ll see you next week.

Till Next week, Karimah
